Dashboards
Upload a file and build charts, slicers and tables.
About the dashboard builder
A BI dashboard built from one Excel, CSV or PDF report in your browser. The fields in your file sit in a pane on the left; drag them onto the canvas to make visuals, into a visual’s X-axis, Legend or Values to change it, or into the filters to narrow the page. Click any bar or slicer value to filter every other visual. KPI cards compare the latest period with the one before and the same period last year, and “Why it changed” splits a change across your columns.
How to build the dashboard
- Upload a CSV, Excel workbook or text-based PDF report. A starter page appears.
- Drag a field from the Data pane onto the canvas for a new visual, or onto a visual to add it. On a phone, tap a visual, then tap a field.
- Pick a visual type on the right, and set the X-axis, Legend and Values; change how a value adds up (sum, average, count) on its chip.
- Click bars or slicer values to filter the page, drag fields into the page filters, then download it to Excel or print it as a PDF.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make a dashboard from an Excel or CSV file?
Upload the file and a starter page appears: KPIs, a trend, the main breakdowns, what changed and a matrix. Every field in the file is listed on the left; drag one onto the canvas for a new visual, or onto a visual or one of its wells (X-axis, Legend, Values) to add it there. Pick a visual type on the right to change a chart into a bar, line, donut, table, matrix or slicer.
Is this a full BI tool?
For one file at a time, yes: drag-and-drop visuals, KPI cards with prior-period and year-over-year change, slicers and page filters, cross-filtering between visuals, a matrix with totals, and a breakdown of what drove a change, with no install, account or data model to build. It does not connect to databases or refresh on a schedule.
How do filters work?
Click a bar, a slice, a matrix row or a slicer value and every other visual on the page filters to it; click it again to clear it. Drag a field into “Filters on this page” to filter by a list of values, a range of periods or a number range. A visual is never filtered by its own field, so it keeps showing everything with your choice picked out.
What can I type into “Describe a chart”?
Plain requests such as “latte sales by store each quarter”, “average order value by region as a table by month”, “why did revenue drop in September” or “revenue with a target of 50k a month”. It is matched to your column names in your browser.
How are ratios and averages totaled?
As BI tools do: margins, averages, distinct counts and ratios are recalculated from the rows of every bar, cell and total, never by adding up percentages. A matrix total is the measure on all of its rows.
Is my file uploaded? Is my dashboard saved?
The file is read in your browser and is not uploaded. The layout you build is remembered in this browser for files with the same columns, so next month’s export opens on the same dashboard. Download Excel gives every visual’s numbers plus the filtered data, with matrix cells as live SUMIFS formulas.
