About the Financial Projection

A driver-based forecast for one to five years, month by month. Revenue comes from lines you describe the way you sell: a monthly amount that grows, units times a price, or subscribers who join and leave. Costs are fixed, a share of revenue, people, or one-off. Cash follows profit with the delays customers and suppliers take, plus purchases, a loan, tax and owner draws, so you see both whether the plan makes money and whether the bank balance holds up on the way. Every number can be changed and the whole forecast recalculates as you type.

How to build a forecast

  1. Start from the example, or upload your history to start from your own numbers.
  2. Describe your revenue lines and costs, and when each starts.
  3. Set cash timing, purchases and any loan.
  4. Set the best and worst case levers, compare the three cash lines, and download the Excel workbook.

Frequently asked questions

How are the best and worst cases built?

From the base case, by moving five levers across every line at once: the level of revenue, the growth rate, the level of costs, monthly churn for subscriptions, and how long customers take to pay. Set each lever for the best and the worst case; the cash chart shows all three side by side.

Why is cash different from profit?

Customers pay after you invoice and you pay suppliers after they bill you, so cash moves later than profit. Equipment purchases, loan payments and owner draws use cash without being costs in the month. The forecast tracks both, and shows the lowest point your bank balance reaches.

Can I start from my own numbers?

Yes. On “Start from my numbers”, upload a bank statement, sales export or monthly P&L with dates and amounts (CSV, Excel, PDF or a SQL database). The forecast then starts after your last full month at your recent level, with the growth rate and seasonality your history shows.

Does the Excel file have formulas?

The totals, gross profit, EBITDA, net income, net cash flow and the running cash balance are formulas over each month’s lines, one sheet per case, with the assumptions on their own sheet.
